Virtua Sports Medicine has been leading the way in the South Jersey area for implementing the ImPACT test for athletes and the South Jersey Lynx players will be ImPACT tested before the 2012 season. This is the same test used by the National Football League and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). According to ImPACT.com, "it is important to manage concussions on an individualized basis and to implement baseline testing and/or post-injury neurocognitive testing." ImPACT, which stands for Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing, is a program developed in the early 1990's to help physicians analyze the effects of concussions. This baseline test will help team doctors in deciding whether or not a player is fit to return after receiving a concussion. Some of the features that the test has include the ability to measure player symptoms, measure verbal and visual memory, and process speed and reaction time to the 1/100th of a second.
